Terror group Daesh said Saturday in a statement that one of its members carried out a deadly attack a day earlier in Germany.
"The perpetrator of the attack on a gathering…in the city of Solingen in Germany yesterday was a soldier of [Daesh]", the terror group said in a statement from its Amaq news agency on the Telegram messaging app – cited by Agence France-Presse (AFP).
The knife attack took place at a festival in Solingen, western Germany, on Friday and left several people dead and injured.
Local reports indicate that at least three people were killed, and four others sustained serious injuries.
The suspect fled the scene, prompting a large-scale manhunt by the Düsseldorf police.
The attack took place during celebrations for Solingen's 650th anniversary, leading authorities to cordon off a significant portion of the festival area as they searched for the perpetrator.
